About Gary Casey

Based in Copenhagen, Gary (known to his friends as Gats) grew up in the small town of Mallow in Co.Cork Ireland. He took art as a subject outside of school for his secondary school exams, gaining high honors. From then on Gary is a self-taught artist experimenting with texture and layering. Being commissioned and then flown to Miami by an American art collector was the catalyst for Gats to commit to art full time - he has never looked back! Now painting out of his own studio (Gats Studio) in Copenhagen, Gary's art has sold across Europe, America & Australia.

The artist is inspired by Irish history and world cultures from ancient to modern. He is motivated by the play of colours and the possibilities in advanced painting techniques.

Artist Bio

I am drawn to art that you just want to reach out and touch. I love to layer paint, pulling the under colours up, giving depth and variety to the textures. I try to create structure in the unstructured.

Growing up with dyslexia has given me a unique view of the world. It allows me to think about and see things alternatively. My schoolbooks always had more art in the side columns than notes. My principal method of understanding as a child was always through visual learning. I figured out that dyslexia could be a disability in life but also a huge advantage as it was clear I looked at things very differently to most. A lesson always driven home by my mother.

Art has always been one of my core means of expression. I find absolute peace in its creation. The years when art was not my primary focus are the years that I felt least fulfilled. Irish history, culture and folklore has always fascinated me, and it often finds its way into my paintings. I consider myself very lucky to have been brought up in a country so rich in history and culture. This drives my love of exploration and travel allowing me to experience diverse cultures that keep on inspiring me.

Private viewings

I feel very privileged to have my own studio. The freedom it gives me to create, learn and develop my art, and my style has been life changing for me. It has been a goal of mine for a long time. Now that I have my own work studio, I plan in making the best of this beautiful space.

I’d love to show you my work in the studio. Just get in touch and i’ll set up a time for your private viewing.
